Antón García Secades

Antón García Secades (Uviéu/Oviedo, 1964) is a self-taught visual artist who began his artistic journey in 1989.

His work is characterised by the use of natural resources to reveal a distinctive geological vision of the landscape, a recurring theme throughout his career. Deeply connected to the land and to his physical surroundings, his creations show colour interacting directly with mineral elements such as coal, slate, limestone and, especially, beach sand, giving rise to reliefs, folds and textures that move between the figurative and the abstract, evolving through the artist’s different stages.

These materials become the central element of his creations. The exploration and study of their behaviour during the creative process give rise to a treatment of the medium that plays with the characteristic and distinctive absorption of pigments by each component, altering their intensity and contours almost organically until the final result of the work is reached.
